Bayport-Blue Point Staff Ready for New School Year

The Bayport-Blue Point School District kicked off the 2026-27 school year Tuesday by welcoming faculty and staff back for its annual Superintendent’s Conference Day, combining professional development with a celebration of the people who serve the district.

The Sept. 1 gathering marked the first Superintendent’s Conference Day led by Robert E. Haas, a 1997 Bayport-Blue Point graduate who officially took over as superintendent Aug. 1. Haas has spent his entire professional career in the district, beginning as a social studies teacher and later serving as an assistant principal, middle and high school principal and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

Haas told employees he wants the district to remain a place where staff members feel they belong.

“There is no better place to come to work,” Haas said, thanking employees for the support they have shown him and his family over the years.

“That is my goal for everyone in this room,” he added. “From the new hires to the people who are in their last year, that this place feels like a home to you.”

The district serves students across five schools: Academy Street, Blue Point and Sylvan Avenue elementary schools, James Wilson Young Middle School and Bayport-Blue Point High School.

Conference Day also provided an opportunity to recognize employees for their service.

Stephanie Eberhard-Holgerson received the district’s Teacher of the Year Award for her leadership, innovation, compassion and mentorship. Jimmy Hook, a 38-year district veteran, was named Employee of the Year.

Haas also recognized employees marking 20, 25 and 30 years of service.

The gathering came just days after incoming middle and high school students participated in orientation programs designed to prepare them for the transition back to class.

Staff spent the remainder of Conference Day participating in professional development, attending faculty meetings and preparing classrooms as Bayport-Blue Point gets ready to welcome students for another school year.
