Brookhaven’s Highway Department has completed nearly $4 million in major paving, drainage and flood-mitigation projects announced during 2026, with work reaching communities across the town.

One of the largest projects was a $1.9 million coastal-resiliency initiative in Mastic Beach, where Riviera Drive was raised an average of nine inches and as much as 12 inches in some locations to combat chronic flooding. Five new drainage structures were installed, marina outfalls received back-flow preventers and portions of Elm Road, Lakeview Drive, Orchid Drive, Dogwood Road and Woodland Drive were restored.

In Rocky Point, a paving and drainage project covered 12 roads. The town spent approximately $203,000 on resurfacing and another $178,000 installing drainage on Undine Road, with most of the paving cost covered through a Community Development Block Grant.

Farmingville saw approximately $323,000 in resurfacing on Fleetwood Drive, Mt. White Avenue and Old Medford Avenue between Horseblock and Granny roads. Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro said Old Medford Avenue was heavily traveled and in need of repair.

Recent resurfacing was also completed on Bellevue Avenue and Wading River Road in Center Moriches.

In Stony Brook, the Highway Department undertook a $793,000 stormwater rehabilitation project at Aunt Amy Creek, continuing its emphasis on drainage and water-quality improvements alongside conventional road work.

The latest paving project, announced this month, covered six Miller Place roads — Bobcat Lane, Lightning Lane, Natures Lane, Rocky Mountain Way, Thunder Road and White Tail Lane — at a cost of approximately $498,000.

“Our 2026 paving season is still in full swing as we move across the Town improving infrastructure and making roadways safer and smoother for residents,” Losquadro said.
