“Presidential” Limo Busted in the Hamptons

The Setauket Patriots say complaints over their Trump-themed caravan triggered a police crackdown, the seizure of their replica presidential limo and a Secret Service investigation.

A Trump-themed “presidential” limousine rolling through the Hamptons with a well-known Trump impersonator aboard suddenly found itself surrounded by cops, hauled away and caught up in a Secret Service investigation — and the Setauket Patriots say the whole spectacle reeks of political harassment.

The Cadillac is one of two presidential limousine replicas owned by the Patriots, a Long Island pro-Trump conservative group whose flashy rides have become familiar sights at Trump rallies, parades and car shows.

The group was cruising through the Hamptons Saturday as part of a planned caravan when members pulled into a parking lot to regroup. That’s when police swooped in.

“They came in hot,” a Setauket Patriots representative said, describing six police vehicles descending on the group. “It was like a movie.”

Center Moriches attorney John Scott Prudenti, who represents the organization, said the police response followed 911 calls from people who apparently didn’t like what they were seeing.

“This went from a pro-Trump caravan to a Secret Service investigation in a matter of minutes,” Prudenti said. “For what amounts to a prop vehicle with an ornamental plate, it seems like a tremendous overreaction.”

Southampton Village police cited the vehicle for an improper plate and impounded it. Prudenti said the Cadillac was legally registered and insured, with its legitimate plates inside.

He described the “MAGA 1” Washington plate as an ornamental car-show prop mistakenly left displayed.

“This front plate was no different than a plate that says Long Island Strong or Vermont or your favorite football team,” Prudenti said.

The Patriots contend the response was fueled by complaints about a conspicuous pro-Trump caravan traveling through a heavily Democratic area. They noted that the Clintons have been in the Hamptons this summer, Bill at his 80th birthday party at the home of Alex Soros and Huma Abedin and Hillary at a Guild Hall event.

The group also unloaded on what it called upside-down enforcement priorities.

“Meanwhile, in the Hamptons, illegal immigration is a well-known local issue and police have refused to work with ICE,” the group charged. “The Hamptons have become a haven for illegal aliens, but instead of focusing on criminals, they impound a car that merely looks like the president’s.”

Prudenti said the Patriots are fully cooperating with the Secret Service while fighting to get their “presidential” ride back. The summonses are returnable Sept. 15 in Southampton Village Justice Court.
