Snapper Showdown Invites Young Anglers to Cast a Line

Young anglers will have a chance to test their fishing skills and enjoy a day on the water when the Cedar Beach Snapper Showdown comes to Cedar Beach West in Mount Sinai on Saturday, August 29th.

The family-friendly fishing event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to children under 18.

Organizers are promising friendly competition, prizes and an opportunity for local families to spend time outdoors along the North Shore.

Participation is limited to 100 young anglers, and advance registration is required.

The first 50 participants to register will receive either a rod-and-reel combination or an event T-shirt. Additional prizes will be awarded during the showdown.

Participants are asked to bring their own fishing pole, bait and tackle.

The event is also intended to support local environmental education and stewardship efforts.

Organizers are requesting a $5 suggested donation, with proceeds benefiting the Mount Sinai Marine Environmental Stewardship Center.

The Snapper Showdown is sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven, the Montauk Surfcasters Association, Miller Place Bait and Tackle and Ralph’s Fishing Station & Marina. Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner and Supervisor Dan Panico are also featured as supporters of the event.

With registration capped at 100 participants and giveaways available to the earliest registrants, families interested in taking part are encouraged to sign up in advance.
