Suffolk DA Names New Communications Director

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office has appointed veteran communications professional Anna Sokol as its new director of communications, placing an experienced public affairs specialist at the center of one of Long Island’s busiest and most closely watched prosecutorial offices.

District Attorney Ray Tierney’s office has earned a reputation for providing detailed information to the public about its criminal investigations, major prosecutions and public safety initiatives. Central to that effort is the communications office, which serves as the primary link between prosecutors, the news media and the public by providing timely information on cases while promoting transparency about the office’s work.

Sokol brings more than a decade of experience in strategic communications, media relations and public affairs. She joins Suffolk County after spending the past six years with the Queens District Attorney’s Office, where she worked closely with executive leadership to develop communications strategies, oversee public information efforts and strengthen the office’s digital presence.

Before joining the Queens DA’s Office, Sokol worked in Weill Cornell Medicine’s Office of External Affairs, supporting media relations and public affairs for one of the nation’s leading academic medical institutions.

As director of communications, Sokol will oversee public information and press relations, coordinating media inquiries, highlighting significant prosecutions and helping communicate the office’s mission to residents across Suffolk County.

Her appointment comes as Tierney’s office continues to handle high-profile criminal investigations and prosecutions that have drawn national attention, including the Gilgo Beach serial killings case, major gang and organized crime busts, large-scale fentanyl trafficking investigations, public corruption matters, Medicaid fraud and numerous homicide prosecutions that have generated widespread regional and national media coverage.

The district attorney’s office said Sokol will focus on ensuring transparency, strengthening collaboration with the media and community stakeholders, and highlighting the office’s efforts to promote public safety and pursue justice.

As the office continues to manage complex investigations and high-profile prosecutions, Sokol will play a key role in ensuring accurate, timely and transparent communication with both the public and the news media.
