Suffolk County's estimated 48,220 military veterans will get first crack at employment opportunities November 5 when County Executive Ed Romaine hosts a job fair connecting former service members with major employers.
The event runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 137 Gazza Boulevard in Farmingdale, with exclusive access for veterans, transitioning military personnel and military spouses during the first hour.
The general public can attend beginning at 6 p.m.
According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates covering 2020 through 2024, Suffolk has the largest veteran population of any New York county.
Approximately 19,200 Suffolk veterans are 75 or older, while 3,050 are younger than 35. Another 3,400 are women veterans.
“Suffolk County is home to the largest veteran’s populations in New York State, so connecting them with job opportunities is vitally important,” Romaine said.
“Many skills from the military are transferable to the civilian workforce, such as leadership, technical proficiency and the many specializations that exist in the military.”
Participating employers include Canon U.S.A., Northwell Health, Northport VA, Jake's 58/Suffolk OTB, United Veterans Beacon House, Kedrion Biopharma and Macy's.
Government recruiters include New York State Police, Suffolk County Police, the Internal Revenue Service and New York State Civil Service.
The Suffolk County Department of Labor will provide employment assistance, workforce training information and access to county and state resources.
International Union of Operating Engineers Local 138 is sponsoring the event.
Attendees are encouraged to dress professionally and bring multiple copies of their resumes.
For Suffolk's thousands of veterans, the event offers direct access to employers across healthcare, law enforcement, government and private industry.
Additional information is available through the Suffolk County Department of Labor website.
