Video Vault: Police Drone Hunts Down Lindenhurst Burglary Suspect

He allegedly ran from the cops, but he couldn't hide from their eye in the sky.

A burglary suspect was hunted down by a Suffolk County Police drone Monday night after allegedly breaking into a Lindenhurst home and taking off before officers arrived, police said.

First Precinct cops raced to a home on Richmond Avenue at 7:06 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a burglary.

But the alleged burglar was already gone.

Police quickly sent up a Drone as First Responder to scour the neighborhood from above as officers searched on the ground.

Using information provided by witnesses, detectives piloting the drone spotted a man matching the suspect's description and directed officers straight to his location, according to police.

The suspect wasn't giving up without one last run for it.

Police said officers encountered Isaias Miranda, 26, and chased him on foot before taking him into custody on Kings Avenue at approximately 7:42 p.m. — just 36 minutes after the initial 911 call.

Miranda, who lives on Macarthur Avenue in Lindenhurst, was charged with second-degree burglary and possession of burglar tools.

The dramatic arrest showcased Suffolk County's growing use of drones to get eyes on emergency scenes before, and while, officers arrive.

In this case, police said the airborne technology helped detectives track a fleeing burglary suspect through a residential neighborhood and guide cops on the ground directly to him.

Miranda was arraigned Tuesday, August 25th, at First District Court in Central Islip.
