One of the greatest players in Tennessee Titans history is receiving one of the franchise's highest honors.

The Titans announced that legendary running back Chris Johnson will be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor during halftime of the 2026 season opener on Sunday, Sept. 13, at Nissan Stadium. The ceremony will celebrate a player whose electrifying speed and record-breaking performances made him one of the most dynamic running backs of his era.

The announcement comes just weeks after Johnson, 40, revealed that he has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

"Chris Johnson holds a special place in the hearts of our organization and our fans," Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said. "His stats speak for themselves, and he will forever remain a leader in our record books, but the man behind the yardage deserves just as much celebration. We look forward to welcoming him home on Sept. 13 and officially inducting him into the Titans Ring of Honor."

Johnson etched his name into NFL history during the 2009 season when he rushed for 2,006 yards, the seventh-highest single-season rushing total in league history. He also added 503 receiving yards, giving him an NFL-record 2,509 yards from scrimmage. That remarkable season earned him the nickname "CJ2K" and the NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award.

Selected by Tennessee with the 24th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, Johnson spent six seasons with the Titans and rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of them. He finished his Titans career with 7,965 rushing yards and 58 total touchdowns, both ranking fourth in franchise history.

Johnson will become the 20th member of the Titans Ring of Honor, a fitting tribute to one of the organization's all-time greats.

Despite facing the challenge of an ALS diagnosis, Johnson has remained determined.

"At first, you're in shock," Johnson said. "Then, you realize you have two choices. You can give up, or you can fight. I chose to fight."

His remarkable football career earned him a place among the Titans' legends, and his courage continues to inspire people far beyond the football field.
