Zac Veen - OF Rockies

Veen just got the call. The Rockies recalled him on Tuesday, designating Edouard Julien for assignment to clear a 26-man roster spot, and it's the reward for one of the hottest bats in the minors all season. At Triple-A Albuquerque, Veen slashed .327/.402/.635 with 24 home runs, 87 RBI, 18 steals, and 82 runs in 100 games — and he was scorching hot right up to the call-up, going 5-for-5 with three homers, a double, and a triple in his final weekend series.

The concern is that his first MLB trial last year was a disaster (4-for-34, .118 average in 12 games), and the Rockies' outfield mix hasn't given him a clean path to everyday at-bats. But with Colorado sellers at the deadline and thin on established outfield bats, Veen should get a real look down the stretch. The power-speed combo is legit if he makes enough contact. This is a stash in mixed leagues and an add-now in anything deeper — just don't expect an immediate burst production against big-league pitching.

Justin Martinez - RP Diamondbacks

Martinez is a name to jump on before he's actually activated. The flame-throwing righty has been out since June 2025 following his second Tommy John surgery, but he's completed his rehab assignment (three scoreless outings, including a clean stint at Triple-A Reno) and is reportedly targeting a return either this weekend in Atlanta or early next week in Boston.

Before the injury, Martinez was excellent — a 2.70 ERA and three saves in three chances with triple-digit velocity and a wipeout splitter. Arizona has been rolling with a closer-by-committee approach in his absence, and while manager Torey Lovullo hasn't publicly committed to handing him the ninth inning immediately, Martinez profiles as the clear best arm in that bullpen once he's stretched back out. He might not close on Day 1 back, but the saves should follow within a couple of weeks given his track record and stuff.

Nolan Arenado - 3B Diamondbacks

Arenado was left for dead in a lot of leagues after a rough finish in St. Louis, but the move to the desert has quietly resurrected his season. He's hitting .242/.322/.433 with 18 home runs, 58 RBI, and 55 runs across 113 games — numbers that already top his final two seasons as a Cardinal — and he's been on an absolute tear in August, launching four homers (including a grand slam) over his first nine games of the month while hitting .250 with eight RBI.

The underlying signs are encouraging too: his 9.1% walk rate is his best since 2019, and his 4.05 pitches per plate appearance shows an approach built on tougher at-bats rather than just hot BABIP luck. He won't return to his MVP-caliber peak, but as a steady middle-of-the-order presence on a Diamondbacks team fighting for a playoff spot, Arenado offers a safe power/RBI floor with real upside if this hot streak continues.

Josh Bell - 1B/DH Twins

Bell's season got off to a miserable start in Minnesota — as low as .223 with just five home runs through mid-summer — but he's turned it around in a big way. Over his last seven games he's hitting .370 with three homers and eight RBI, and for the season he's now up to .252/.314/.427 with 16 home runs, 71 RBI, and 59 runs across 115 games.

Bell's strikeout rate has actually come down to a manageable 21.1%, and he's settled into a middle-of-the-order role in a Twins lineup that needs the pop. He's unlikely to be a league-winner, but as a source of counting stats (RBI and runs) with sneaky power, he's worth a look in mixed and AL-only formats, especially in leagues where he was dropped during his early-season slump
