Smithtown Legend Reaches the Top

Smithtown West graduate Rob Pannell has added another incredible milestone to his legendary lacrosse career, becoming professional lacrosse's all-time leading scorer.

Pannell reached the historic mark while playing for the Maryland Whipsnakes of the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), recording the goal that gave him 658 career points and cemented his place atop the sport's record book.

For those who followed his career on Long Island, the accomplishment comes as no surprise. Pannell established himself as one of the area's greatest high school players during his time at Smithtown West, where he dazzled fans with his scoring ability, vision and leadership.

During his senior season in 2007, Pannell amassed an incredible 130 points, scoring 49 goals while adding 89 assists. His outstanding play earned him High School All-American honors as well as the prestigious Suffolk County Exceptional Senior Game Offensive MVP Award, capping one of the finest careers in school history.

Pannell's impact on Smithtown West has continued long after his graduation. In recognition of everything he accomplished—and the example he set through his dedication and work ethic—the school established a special tradition in his honor. Each year, a senior player who best embodies Pannell's commitment, leadership and passion for the game is selected to wear his iconic No. 3 jersey.

His record-breaking achievement is another proud moment for the Smithtown community and for Long Island lacrosse, which has long been recognized as one of the nation's premier hotbeds for the sport. Pannell's success continues to inspire young athletes who dream of following in his footsteps.
