Suffolk Native Heads to the Cosmos

American Soccer Club New York defender Stalyn Acosta is taking the next step in his soccer career, signing a contract to play for the New York Cosmos of USL League One.

The 20-year-old Brentwood native becomes the second Fighting Tomcat to join the Cosmos, following defender Will Noecker, who signed with the iconic franchise in March.

As part of team policy, terms of Acosta's contract were not disclosed.

"Stalyn Acosta's transfer to the New York Cosmos represents another significant milestone in American Soccer Club NY's long-term commitment to developing Long Island Metro NY players and creating meaningful professional opportunities with our club and beyond," said American Soccer Club New York Managing Partner and General Manager Jim Kilmeade.

Since joining the Fighting Tomcats in 2025, Acosta has demonstrated the work ethic and competitive character that ASC New York looks for in its players. His move to the Cosmos is another example of the club's efforts to develop local talent and help players reach the professional level.

Last November, ASC New York and the Cosmos announced a partnership designed to strengthen the regional player-development system and create a direct professional pathway for Long Island soccer talent.

"I'm incredibly grateful for my time with American Soccer Club New York," said Acosta. "The coaches, staff and my teammates all played a huge role in helping me grow both as a player and as a person. I'm excited for this next chapter with the New York Cosmos, but I'll always be thankful for everything American Soccer Club New York has done for me."

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Acosta played two seasons for ASC New York and has also competed for Liga Pro club Ponce FC in Puerto Rico. He recorded an assist for the Fighting Tomcats during the 2026 playoffs.

Acosta began his soccer career with Brentwood Soccer Club and Brentwood High School before playing collegiately at Cortland.

His signing comes after a historic season for ASC New York. The Fighting Tomcats qualified for the National Premier Soccer League playoffs for the first time in team history and advanced to the North Atlantic Conference Championship Game.

For Acosta, the opportunity represents another exciting chapter in a young career that has taken him from Brentwood to the professional ranks. For ASC New York, it is another sign that its commitment to developing Long Island players is paying dividends.
