The William Floyd varsity gymnastics team put together an impressive season, finishing with an 8-1 overall record and capturing the League II championship with a perfect 5-0 mark in league competition.
Led by head coach Rich Daly and assistant coach Lindsay Kulik, the Colonials also earned their fourth consecutive appearance in the Suffolk County team championships. The team finished the regular season on an eight-meet winning streak, building momentum heading into postseason competition.
One of the season's biggest highlights came when William Floyd recorded the second-highest team score in program history. With the Colonials tied with North Babylon/Deer Park for first place in League II at the time, the team delivered a score of 168.8 to secure an important victory.
Daly said this year's squad is particularly young, with several new student-athletes stepping into important roles. He noted that the team's success makes the championship season even more impressive.
The coach also recognized the outstanding performances of junior Andrea Medina and eighth-grader Natiese Lemons, along with teammates Ava Alese, Sophia Colon, Mackenzie Lauro and Adriana McCook.
The Colonials were scheduled to compete in the Suffolk County team championships Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Patchogue-Medford High School. Several William Floyd athletes will also take part in the individual county championships Friday, Nov. 6, at West Islip High School, followed by the Suffolk County Coaches Invitational Saturday, Nov. 7, at William T. Rogers Middle School in Kings Park.
The invitational will also feature gymnasts from Center Moriches, Eastport-South Manor, Longwood, Riverhead, Rocky Point and Shoreham-Wading River. Those participating include Teagan Coen, Ariana Ford, Vivian Kling, Isabella LaMare, Aubrey Lucas, Isabella Manfredonia, Anabella Marzilla, Sophie Murphy, Adriana Pabon, Riley Pfiel, Halle Rau, Ava Vargas, Avery Versacci, Vivianna Villa and Alyssa Wood.
