HOT FOR STUDENT: Teacher Busted In Stalking Rap

A Suffolk County high school teacher was busted Thursday after allegedly stalking a former student with whom police say he previously had a sexual relationship while she was 17.

John Kennedy, 53, a Bay Shore High School art teacher, was arrested at his St. James home Thursday afternoon and charged with fourth-degree stalking, according to Suffolk County Police.

The 18-year-old woman told police she noticed Kennedy following her as she drove from her home to Selden Thursday morning.

After she reached her destination, police were called at approximately 10:40 a.m.

Kennedy was taken into custody at his home on Moriches Road in St. James at 4:10 p.m.

But investigators said Thursday's alleged pursuit was not an isolated incident.

A subsequent investigation by Sixth Precinct Crime Unit officers found that Kennedy allegedly had a sexual relationship with the woman last year, when she was a 17-year-old senior at Bay Shore High School and Kennedy was her art teacher, police said.

Authorities also allege Kennedy had been spotted driving past the former student's home multiple times during the past several weeks.

Kennedy was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Police are now looking to determine whether there may be other alleged victims.

Kennedy is accused of fourth-degree stalking. Police did not announce any additional charges stemming from the alleged prior sexual relationship. A criminal charge is an accusation. Kennedy is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
