Hills West Defense Shuts Down Comsewogue

It was all about defense this week when Half Hollow Hills West met Comsewogue in a game that quickly turned into one of the best defensive battles of the young football season.

When the final whistle sounded, Hills West walked away with a 12-0 victory, but the score doesn't tell the entire story. For much of the afternoon, both defenses controlled the game and made every yard difficult to earn.

The game was scoreless at halftime, with neither offense able to find much room to operate. From the opening kickoff, the defenses dictated the pace, turning the contest into a matter of which team would finally break through.

That team was Hills West.

The Colts imposed their will in the second half, with Sam Seid leading the offensive charge on the ground. Seid rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns, providing Hills West with the offensive spark it needed to finally break open the defensive stalemate.

Seid was just as important on the other side of the ball. The standout two-way performance included eight tackles as Hills West continued to make life difficult for the Comsewogue offense.

The rest of the Hills West defense also came up with some big plays when they were needed most.

Jian Etkins recorded a sack, while Christian Sala recovered a fumble to help keep Comsewogue off the scoreboard.

The shutout was particularly impressive considering how well the Hills West defense has played through the opening two games of the season. The Colts have allowed just 13 points combined in those two games.

That's an average of just 6.5 points per game, giving Hills West a strong defensive foundation as the season moves forward.

The Colts will now hit the road for their next challenge when they travel to take on East Hampton/Pierson.

After two games, Hills West has made one thing very clear: opposing offenses are going to have to work for every point.
