McCormick Named Gatorade Player of the Year

Bay Shore standout Maggie McCormick has added one of the state's most prestigious athletic honors to an already remarkable list of accomplishments.

McCormick has been named the 2025-26 Gatorade New York Girls Track & Field Player of the Year, recognizing an extraordinary season that included championship performances, record-breaking marks and a level of excellence that placed her among the nation's top high school track and field athletes.

The award also recognizes much more than what McCormick accomplished on the track. The Gatorade Player of the Year program considers athletic performance, academic achievement and exemplary character, making the honor a reflection of McCormick's commitment both as an athlete and as a member of the Bay Shore community.

And what a season it was.

McCormick captured a New York State championship and a national title while turning in record-breaking performances throughout the year. Her accomplishments helped establish her as one of the premier girls track and field athletes in New York and brought national attention to the Bay Shore program.

For a school with a proud athletic tradition, McCormick's latest accomplishment provides another special chapter in the history of Marauders athletics.

Throughout her Bay Shore career, McCormick has competed at the highest levels, representing her school on the local, state and national stages. Her consistency and ability to perform when the spotlight was brightest have made her one of the area's most accomplished track and field athletes.

Now, she can add Gatorade New York Girls Track & Field Player of the Year to that impressive résumé.

The honor also highlights the importance of the student-athlete aspect of McCormick's success. While championship medals and record-breaking performances are easy to see, the Gatorade award recognizes the work that takes place away from the track as well.

Bay Shore High School shared its pride in McCormick following the announcement.

"Congratulations, Maggie! Your hard work, dedication, and commitment have made the entire Bay Shore community incredibly proud. We can't wait to see all you accomplish at the next level."

That next level promises to be an exciting one for McCormick, who has already established herself as one of the best young track and field athletes in New York.

For Bay Shore, however, this accomplishment is about more than one award. It is another example of a local student-athlete putting in the work, competing against the best and representing her school and community on some of the biggest stages in high school athletics.

A New York State championship. A national title. Record-breaking performances. And now, Gatorade Player of the Year.

Not a bad way to cap an extraordinary season.
