Miller Place boys cross country had plenty to celebrate at the Section XI New York State Qualifier at Sunken Meadow, as Nick DiCaprio and Noah Felice turned in outstanding performances to earn their spots at the state championships.
DiCaprio led the way with a first-place finish, capturing the Class B individual championship and putting together a performance that highlighted his hard work throughout the season. Winning a sectional title is no small accomplishment, especially on a challenging course like Sunken Meadow, where runners are tested from start to finish.
Felice also delivered an impressive race, crossing the finish line in fourth place in the Class B competition. His strong showing put him among the top runners in the field and secured his place alongside DiCaprio at the next level.
With both athletes finishing among the top competitors at the qualifier, Miller Place will now be represented at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships.
The state meet is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, in Queensbury, New York, where DiCaprio and Felice will get the opportunity to test themselves against some of the best cross country runners from across the state.
For the Miller Place program, having two runners qualify for the state championships is a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of the dedication required to compete at this level. The work put in throughout the season has paid off, and now the Panthers have two athletes ready to take on one more major challenge.
After strong performances at Sunken Meadow, DiCaprio and Felice have earned the chance to carry Miller Place's colors onto the statewide stage.
