Ward Melville’s Quinn Kurtz Named Jets High School Player of the Week

Ward Melville High School senior Quinn Kurtz is earning recognition for his outstanding performance on the football field, receiving the New York Jets High School Player of the Week honor after helping lead the Patriots to an impressive victory.

Kurtz, who plays both center and defensive end for Ward Melville, delivered a dominant performance in a 33-14 win over previously undefeated Sachem North. The senior made his presence felt on both sides of the ball, showcasing the toughness and versatility that have helped make him an important part of the Patriots’ success.

On offense, Kurtz recorded five pancake blocks, helping create running lanes and give his teammates opportunities to make plays. On defense, he was equally effective, finishing with 14 tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

His ability to contribute in multiple ways proved valuable against a Sachem North team that entered the matchup without a loss. Ward Melville’s 19-point victory demonstrated the Patriots’ ability to rise to the challenge against a strong opponent, with Kurtz playing a significant role in the result.

The New York Jets recognized Kurtz for his efforts through their High School Player of the Week program, which highlights standout performances by football players across the region.

The honor also brings a special opportunity for Kurtz and the other weekly winners. They will be recognized during the Jets’ December 13 game against the Denver Broncos, giving the Ward Melville senior a chance to be celebrated on an NFL stage.

For high school athletes, recognition from a professional organization is a meaningful way to see their hard work acknowledged beyond their own school community. Kurtz’s performance against Sachem North was a particularly impressive example of the impact a player can make through preparation, physical play and dedication to his team.

Whether opening holes as a center or disrupting opposing offenses at defensive end, Kurtz has shown the versatility that makes two-way football players so valuable.

His Player of the Week selection adds another highlight to Ward Melville’s season and recognizes a performance that helped the Patriots earn one of their biggest victories of the year.
